‘Young Adult’ ensemble to receive Vanguard Award at Palm Springs Film Festival
Teaming up again has proved to be a smart strategy thus far for Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman. The duo will be honored once again with the Vanguard Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, this time with the ensemble of their dark comedy Young Adult. The Vanguard Award, which was previously given to Cody and Reitman in 2008 for their work on Juno, recognizes films with an “outstanding creative ensemble.” Young Adult’s stars Charlize Theron (a fellow previous PSIFF winner) and Patton Oswalt will also be on hand to accept the honor.
“It is a particular pleasure for the Palm Springs International Film Festival to present the 2012 Vanguard Award to Young Adult, a truly unique and utterly enjoyable film,” festival chairman Harold Matzner said in a statement. “The filmmakers and cast represent the some of the best and most exciting film making work of the year and have delivered a biting black comedy as deeply poignant as it is funny.”
The Awards Gala, in which Young Adult will be honored alongside previously announced honorees such as George Clooney, Glenn Close, Michel Hazanavicius, Octavia Spencer, and Michelle Williams, will be held Saturday, January 7. The festival itself, now in its 23rd year, runs from Jan. 5-16.
